Nobody wants to go to the office or show up to campus unless it it's completely necessary. It's not only difficult to find a place to work on campus, but also your friends and coworkers often can be a huge distraction when you’re cramming for a deadline.
There are many interesting places to get stuff done outside of the workplace in Ottawa. Coffee shops are the best option due to the free Wi-Fi, food, and lots of coffee to help you wake up when you get drowsy.
If you’re looking for a new spot to work, here’s some of the best coffee shops in Ottawa that you might want to check out.
Where: 200 Marché Way #109 in Landsdowne
After hours of working you likely need a coffee and a treat to keep you going for a while. Well at Aroma Espresso Bar you can get both! With every coffee you get a mini chocolate bar to help with a little sugar boost along with your caffeine. They also have a variety of treats and lunch offerings if you’re desiring a little more. And don't worry, this coffee shop has lots of seating, so you’ll always be able to find a spot to set up and get to work.
Ministry of Coffee is another great café with tons of seating – making it the perfect spot to work. With plenty of lighting thanks to its huge windows and its fantastic coffee, you’re sure to stay awake here. This spot is also very popular with people working or studying, so it’s rather quiet inside too.
Where: 555 Somerset St W
Art House is located in an old heritage home and has hundred’s of pieces of unique art on display. In the daytime, this café is quiet and a great place to enjoy a cup of coffee and some lunch from their delicious menu. The only downside is at night, it turns into a lounge and bar with live music which doesn’t make for a great work atmosphere.
Not only is Black Squirrel one of the best coffee shops in Ottawa, during the day it operates as a bookstore. So if you love the feeling of studying at the library, but hate seeing everyone you know while you're there, this is the spot for you. Like Art House Café, at night, it is best to find a different location as Black Squirrel Books has live music making for a noisy and less ideal working situation.
Where: 1047 Canadian Shield Ave
Morning Owl has many locations across Ottawa, but my contender for best coffee shop in Ottawa is the Kanata location. Compared to their downtown cafés, this location tends to be quieter and have fewer crowds meaning you're less likely to run into someone you know. Now not only is this coffee shop perfect to get work done, but the coffee and food here is outstanding and the shop itself is covered in plants. Who doesn't want an aesthetically pleasing place to study?
